Reported Speech

In order to give information about what people say or think,we use the direct or quoted speech,or indirect or reported speech :
Direct Speech :
it means saying exactly what someone has said .
For example :
He said, i live in Dammam   Or     "I live in Dammam , she said "
Indirect Speech :
We don't use quotation marks and it doesn't need to be word for word .
When reporting, the pronoun and the tense of the verb usually change

Direct :    He said, "i live in Dammam."
Indirect:  He said(That) he lived in Dammam .
